Rooftop Deck, The Fern

2016-2018

In a program to rejuvenate a 30 year old hotel rooftop, architect Subharthi Guha envisioned to bring together an enclosed canopy, an open roof deck made over existing toilet shafts and an open roof with natural plants. It all works together as a microcosm on the top of a hotel. The canopy is a unique intervention of light filtering through space that moulds itself with 8 petals in the form of leaves.

The idea of the rooftop deck at the Howard plaza was to create a space where one can come to relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the tourism industry in Agra. After a busy day visit to Taj Mahal or the nearby Agra fort and Fatehpur Sikri, the tourists can sit with a drink and have food in a place that is not too commercial or filled with loud music... just find some serenity.
